Mission Statement
Sigma Nu's mission is to develop ethical leaders by the principles of Love, Honor, and Truth. To foster the personal growth of each man's mind, heart, and character. To perpetuate lifelong friendships and commitment to the Fraternity. Mu Sigma chapter provides the means to attain these goals and provide a meaningful college experience.
History
Sigma Nu has a rich and proud history. Originally, three cadets at the Virginia Military Institute founded Sigma Nu during the Reconstruction time period around the civil war. The main principle of Sigma Nu was to cease the physical abuse and hazing that underclassmen went through within the Institute during that time. Since 1869, the date Sigma Nu was founded, Sigma Nu has expanded to over 180 active chapters and colonies while initiating over 214,000 members.
Mu Sigma Chapter was colonized within the mid 90's with 16 original founders. On March 11th, 1999 the Mu Sigma Chapter received its official charter and became an official chapter of Sigma Nu. Today, we still remain a smaller chapter, but a very active and proud one with close relationships that can last for a lifetime and provide many great experiences.
Philanthropy Efforts
Sigma Nu encourages and fosters many philanthropy events throughout all of the chapters. Mu Sigma has greatly suppported these efforts by supporting Kids Cancer Research and raising over $1500 for St. Judes Hospital. Also, over $1000 was raised for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation this year. Also, many smaller events are setup throughout the year to help local communities and other charities.
